On Tuesday 20th January, 2026, Akro Senior High Technical School in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal marked a major milestone in its development with the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a modern Assembly Hall on the school campus.

The ceremony brought together key stakeholders in education and governance, including the Member of Parliament for the constituency, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), the Municipal Director of Education, the Eastern Regional Minister, representatives of the construction company, party executives, staff, students, and members of the media.

Delivering the welcome address, the Headmistress of Akro Senior High Technical School, Miss Theresa Hushie, expressed heartfelt appreciation to government and political leadership for facilitating the project.
“We are sincerely grateful to the President of the Republic, the Member of Parliament, the Municipal Chief Executive, and the Regional Minister for lobbying and securing this important project for our school,” she said. “The Assembly Hall will greatly enhance our academic programmes, school assemblies, and major events.”
Miss Hushie also highlighted some of the pressing infrastructural needs of the school and appealed for further support.

“As our student population continues to grow, we humbly appeal for an 18-unit classroom block, additional dormitories, and a 50-seater bus to improve teaching and learning and to support school activities,” she added.
Speaking on the purpose of the gathering, the Member of Parliament, Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Terlarbi, acknowledged the presence of all dignitaries and reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Akro SHS.
“This school holds a special place in my heart because I passed through it when it was a middle school,” he noted. “For that reason, I have committed myself to supporting its growth, and the modern Assembly Hall is one of the promises I am happy to fulfill

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Girls’ Prefect Miss Irene Adade, who expressed appreciation on behalf of the student body.
