The Home Economics Department of Akro Senior High Technical School, located in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region, on Tuesday, 22nd January, 2026, organised an intensive practical session for final-year students as part of efforts to prepare them adequately for the upcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
The practical training session was held at the Home Economics Practical Laboratory and Cookery Unit on the school campus, where candidates offering Home Economics were given the opportunity to sharpen their hands-on skills and deepen their understanding of examination requirements. Students actively participated in various practical activities under the close supervision and guidance of their teachers
Addressing the students during the session, the Head of the Home Economics Department, Miss Irene Dey, urged candidates to attach seriousness to their practical work, describing it as a major component of the WASSCE.
“Your practical examination contributes significantly to your final WASSCE results. You must therefore take every practical session seriously and approach it with commitment and discipline,” she advised.

Miss Dey further stressed the importance of early planning and consistent practice, encouraging students to manage their time effectively as the examination period draws closer.
“Adequate planning and constant practice are key to success. Do not wait until the examination period before you take your practicals seriously,” she added.
Teachers in the Home Economics Department were highly active throughout the session, moving from group to group to guide students, correct mistakes, and demonstrate proper techniques where necessary. Their active involvement created an interactive learning environment that enhanced students’ understanding and confidence.
One of the teachers highlighted the purpose of the exercise.
“We are here to guide them step by step, correct their errors, and ensure they understand exactly what WASSCE examiners expect,” the teacher noted.
Students expressed appreciation for the practical support and guidance received, stating that the session helped clarify difficult areas and boosted their confidence ahead of the examinat
